Marrakech, the “Red City,” is the most important former imperial city in Morocco’s history, nestled at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. On this Marrakech tour, we will drive through the scenic mountains, passing fascinating and scattered Berber villages. Halfway, we’ll visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a 11th-century fortified village. Just 35 km further, we reach Ouarzazate, known as "Africa’s Hollywood" and home to the largest film studios on the continent. The journey continues through the longest valley in Morocco, stretching 1,052 km, and the largest palm tree oasis. Finally, we’ll arrive in Zagora, where you can still see the remains of an Almoravid fortress. Enjoy a night and dinner at our hotel, completing this unforgettable Marrakech to Zagora desert experience.
Day 2 : Zagora – Tamegroute – Mhamid – Chigaga Dunes
We pass by Tamagrout which is situated along Draa River. In this small town we will visit one of the oldest libraries of the kingdom. We drive along Draa valley to M’hamid, a very modest village similar to the one we visited before this one. From a vast plateau you will get impressed by the huge sand dune of Chigaga appearing from the horizon, where we go for a camel ride to meet one of the most fascinating sand dunes sights you will ever see, the superb sunset in the middle of the high sand dune. Overnight in the Nomad tent under a night full of stars, Berber music and delicious food prepared for you by your guide. Ring in the New Years’ Eve in Erg Chigaga Dunes .
Day 3 : Chigaga Dunes – Iriki Lake – Foumzguid – Tazenakht – High Atlas – Marrakech
From Erg Chigaga we drive through sand dunes along a peaceful and fascinating wilderness passing by the natural dried lake of Iriki. 30 years ago this lake was full of water and different kinds of birds. After a long way driving an off-road, we get into the paved road and pass the small town of Foum-Zguid, which is a noiseless and a sleepy Berber town. We stopover in Taznakht, which was a former trading post for this large region. This little Berber village is one of the biggest carpets center in the kingdom. From Taznakht we drive for almost 90 Km, along quite oases and plenty of Berber villages; to get to the junction in between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, We cross the High Atlas Mountains again to return back to Marrakech.
